Our Story
How We Started
Terrapage Press grew out of a simple conviction: some books deserve to exist even when they don’t fit the risk calculus of a larger house. Exceptional manuscripts were going unpublished — not because they lacked quality, but because they lacked a publisher willing to back them.
We built Terrapage to be that publisher. A small press that operates with the editorial standards of a major house and the agility and conviction of an independent one. Publish fewer titles. Publish them well. Give each book the editorial attention, design care, and marketing support the work actually deserves — rather than what a spreadsheet says it has earned.
The press brings years of experience across editorial, production, acquisitions, and trade distribution to every decision we make — from which manuscripts we take on to how our books are printed, priced, and placed. We are deliberately small, because small means every title gets the full weight of the operation behind it.
We launched in Spring 2026 with our debut title and a plan to publish four to six carefully chosen books per year. We are not trying to be the biggest press on the shelf. We are trying to be the one whose books you keep.
What We Believe
Books are made, not just published.
We invest in editing, design, illustration, and production because the physical and digital quality of a book is part of the reading experience. A well-made book respects both the author’s work and the reader’s time.
Independent publishing matters.
The books that change how people think are often the books that larger houses wouldn’t take a chance on. Independent presses exist to take those chances — and to prove that the books were worth it.
Fewer titles, done right.
We publish four to six books per year. Each title receives full editorial development, professional design, Ingram trade distribution, and a dedicated marketing effort. We believe this is the right pace for a press that means what it publishes.
Authors are partners, not products.
We work closely with our authors through every stage of the publishing process — from developmental editing through launch and beyond. A book’s success is a shared project, and we show up for it.
The Team
Every Terrapage Press title is built by a project team assembled specifically for that book — editors, designers, illustrators, and marketing specialists chosen for what the work requires. We believe the right team changes with the project, and we select collaborators whose strengths match the manuscript in front of us.
We believe in crediting the people who make our books. You will find their names in every volume we publish.
Our debut title, My Dog Is Better at This Than Me, features original illustrations by Cael Morricone, with cover design and interior layout produced in-house.
How We Publish
When we take on a title, it receives the full resources of the press. Our publishing process includes developmental editing, professional copyediting and proofreading, custom cover design and interior layout, original illustration where the work calls for it, and production to trade standards in print, ebook, and audio formats.
Every title is distributed to bookstores, libraries, and retailers worldwide through Ingram Content Group with standard trade terms — 55% wholesale discount, full returnability — because we believe independent publishing should be frictionless for the booksellers and librarians who put books into readers’ hands.
Each book launches with a dedicated marketing effort: advance reader copy distribution through NetGalley and direct outreach, pursuit of professional editorial reviews, influencer and media engagement, and ongoing support through and beyond publication. We do not publish a book and move on. We stay with it.
Questions about our process, our titles, or working with us are welcome at any time. We answer every email we receive.
